Perfect Light

WHEN: 01 February 2018, 08:30
WHERE: Blackwater Valley Path, Surrey, UK

This spot on the Blackwater valley path has been without a doubt my most productive Kingfisher spot. After spending years just hoping to see one and catching the occasional fleeting glance the last 6 months has been an eye opener on just how many birds are actually around. Fingers crossed plenty will survive the harsh weather we are having at the moment and provide me with plenty more photo opportunities this year.

Nikon D500, Nikon 300mm F4 PF + TC-17E II at 500mm (750mm equiv.) – F8, ISO 800, 1/250 sec.

This is what I now consider to be my local female kingfisher, posing for me in the morning sunshine. Pretty challenging front lighting but I just about manager to pull the shot off, I don’t think it would look anywhere near as good with flat lighting.
